Panorama Constance

Panorama Konstanz GmbH & Co. KG is planning a new building at the entrance to Constance to exhibit a 360° panorama by artist Yadegar Asisi.
The resulting circular image will show the Constance Council in a unique way in a cylindrical building.
The architecture and the supporting structure are dominated by the central panorama room, which, apart from an approx. 15-metre-high stair tower in the middle of the room, is planned without any load-bearing components. The building also includes an exhibition room, a multifunctional area and a restaurant with a surrounding terrace offering a unique view over Constance and Lake Constance.
The building is planned as a hybrid construction made of timber and a reinforced concrete base. A curtain façade made of colored expanded metal elements also creates an exciting view of the 50-meter-high cylinder.
To optimize the construction process and the quality of execution, the timber elements of the supporting structure are prefabricated in the factory.
Due to the difficult subsoil conditions, the foundations were laid using bored piles. Further special planning challenges arose due to the height of the building with regard to fire protection and the high wind loads. In addition, the building is located in an earthquake-prone region, which meant that the building also had to be designed accordingly.
