In the popular vacation region of Timmendorfer Strand, the new Pier “Maritim” was ceremoniously opened on Friday after three years of construction, featuring a program of speeches and music.
The modern bridge, designed as a circular pathway, provides the region with a fresh identity and offers visitors a way over the sea, as well as an inviting place to linger, enhanced by integrated seating options. The design of the bridge, which extends 250 meters into the water, is part of a comprehensive project to upgrade the beach area, improving infrastructure and increasing the attractiveness of the location.
The bridge is made of 8 cm thick timber planks supported by a seamless steel hollow box, which is equipped with laterally welded steel cantilevers and suspended secondary steel longitudinal beams. The steel hollow box is seamlessly connected to steel supports and is anchored in a bearing.
Another highlight is the subtle lighting design developed by sbp, which highlights the structure of the bridge and ensures a safe stay without illuminating the surroundings too much.
